The Smithtown Animal Shelter and Adoption Center will microchip your pet for only $25.

What is a microchip?

It is a small glass cylinder about the size of a grain of rice that contains a radio transmitter and a minute electronic device containing the animal’s ID number. The microchip injection comes preloaded in a sterile applicator and is injected under the loose skin between the shoulder blades. The process takes only a few seconds. The chip will last for over 25 years, which is well beyond the lifespan of most pets.

Why microchip your pet?

If your pet gets lost and is taken to a vet clinic or animal shelter, your pet will be scanned for a microchip to reveal his unique ID number. That number will be called into the pet recovery service, and you will be contacted using the contact information on file with your pet's microchip.
